Exploring the Interplay of Light and Shadow

Art has always been a profound medium through which I explore, understand, and communicate my perception of the world around me. My journey as an artist has been a continuous quest to capture the ephemeral beauty of light and shadow, and their intricate dance across landscapes, objects, and human emotions. It is this transient interplay that forms the core of my artistic expression.

Inspiration and Vision

My inspiration stems from the natural world and everyday life. The subtle changes in light throughout the day, the delicate shadows cast by a tree's leaves, and the way light filters through a window at dawn are moments that captivate me. Each of my paintings presents a unique narrative, an untold story waiting to be unveiled through the lens of art.

The vision behind my work is to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation. I aim to create pieces that not only please the eye but also engage the mind and soul.

Through my art, I wish to encourage viewers to pause, reflect, and appreciate the often-overlooked beauty in our daily surroundings. I live in an area filed with beauty. The beauty of a vineyard, especially at sunset is breathtaking.

Mediums and Techniques

While I work with various mediums, including oil paints, watercolors, and charcoal, I have a particular affinity for oils. The versatility and richness of oil paints allow me to experiment with textures and layers, creating depth and luminosity that bring my subjects to life. Additionally, I occasionally incorporate mixed media, to add a contemporary edge to my traditional techniques.

I worked in the field of Graphic Design where I learned the importance of comtrace. It is through this play of contrasts that I seek to convey the emotional essence of my subjects.

Thematic Focus

The themes in my work are diverse yet interconnected by the underlying exploration of light and shadow. One recurring theme is the passage of time. I am fascinated by how light changes with the passing hours, days, and seasons, and how these changes affect our perception of reality. Through my art, I attempt to capture these fleeting moments, preserving them as static yet dynamic impressions on canvas.

Artistic Process

My artistic process is both intuitive and methodical. It begins with observation and contemplation, where I immerse myself in the subject matter, studying the way light interacts with it. This stage often involves sketching and photographing scenes to capture different perspectives and nuances.

Once I have a clear vision, I move on to the preliminary drawings, where I map out the composition and key elements. From there, I begin the painting process, starting with an underpainting that establishes the tonal values. Layer by layer, I build up the painting, paying close attention to the interplay of light and shadow. This process allows me to create a sense of depth and realism, while also leaving room for spontaneity and experimentation.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Over the years, I have had the privilege of showcasing my work in various exhibitions. Each exhibition is an opportunity to share my artistic journey with a wider audience and to connect with fellow art enthusiasts. The feedback and insights I receive from viewers and critics alike are invaluable, enriching my creative process and pushing me to explore new horizons.

My reward lies in the moments when my art resonates with someone on a personal level, sparking a connection within them that transcends the boundaries of language and culture.

Future Directions

As I continue to evolve as an artist, I am excited about the endless possibilities that lie ahead. I plan to delve deeper into the exploration of light and shadow.

My goal is to create art that not only captures the beauty of Creation but invites us in to participate in creating.  As a Psychotherapist I hope to help others break through their Artist’s Block.  I believe that art has the power to inspire, heal, and transform, and I am committed to contributing to this timeless dialogue through my work.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my artist statement. I hope my art speaks to you and evokes a sense of wonder and introspection. I look forward to sharing my future creations with you and continuing this artistic journey together.
